3D view of Joe Hall Watershed

This is a 3D view of the Joe Hall Watershed. The Joe Hall drainage covers approximately 6.5 square miles of land. Areas highlighted in green are USFS Umpqua National Forest managed zones that are in need of post clear cut logging management practices. There are also ancient stands of old growth timber which are a part of Umpqua National Forest.

In ancient times past the native peoples called the upland areas “Seven Meadows”. There is clear evidence of extremely large oak meadow stands in the mid to upper reaches of the canyon. Efforts are currently under way to restore these oak meadows. Fire suppression for the last 150 years has allowed conifer species to choke out and kill the ancient oak stands. The final condition in the canyon should allow for low intensity fires to keep the underbrush and conifer encroachment under control.

At the intersect of Joe Hall Creek and Elk Creek lies Singing Falls Ranch. It is outlined in white on the left.
