The “face cut” has been made. It is a notch cut at the base of the tree facing the direction that you want the tree to fall. Many times trees must fall in a direction they do not want to go due to lean or the weight and preponderance of large branches. The skill of the tree faller is challenged then. The back cut is made and the tree begins to lean.
