dangerous snag

The removal of large wood from the national forest is not a simple task. Not only is the felling and hauling extremely dangerous but there is a very complex process in place before wood removal can even be considered. The government is under strict conservation rules that must be adhered to before you point to a tree and say, “That one.” There is a fine balance between snag and nurse log retention and forest fire fuel loads. Fortunately that equation is fairly well understood today because of conservation policy maturation.
